Taiwo ‘ODINAKACHUKWU’ Akinlami, a public interest Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria, has close to two decades worked with growing businesses and Organized Social Works Society (Non-Governmental Organizations, Faith Based Organization, Community Based Organization and related bodies) as a legal consultant, adviser and trainer.
He has done extensive work and research in the area of law and entrepreneurship and
some of his unique and practical findings was published in his weekly columns with Businessday and Daily Independent newspapers, which ran for over four (4) years. He pioneered LAWpreneurship™, a project aimed at empowering entrepreneurs in the area of law, helping them to deal effectively and professionally with the legal issues in their business processes and of day-to-day major and minor management decisions. Akinlami trains with unusual insight on negotiation, conflict management/resolution, rules of compliance with regulatory bodies and industry standards as a business, responsibilities of effective for-profit and not-for-profit boards and related subjects.
Akinlami served on the editorial board of the Nigerian Weekly Law Reports, the oldest Law Reports in Nigeria as an Assistant Editor (2001 and 2004), under the editorial leadership of the late Chief Gani Fawehinmi, Senior Advocate of Nigeria and was a contributor and member of the editorial board of Justice Now, a publication of Ministry of Justice, Lagos State (2003-2007). Between 2004 and 2006, Akinlami was a member of the Human Rights Committee of the Nigerian Bar Association, Ikeja Branch, Lagos State.
He has been involved in major legal drafting and curriculum development on matters that relate to children’s rights, including serving on a committee of erudite professionals, charged with the pioneering responsibility of mainstreaming Child’s Rights Education into the curriculum of the Nigerian Institute of Journalism, jointly sponsored by UNICEF and the Federal Ministry of Information. He facilitates and consults for UNICEF and has in the last ten (10) years traversed the nooks and crannies of Nigeria to educate children, young people and adults of diverse interests on the Child’s Rights Act, 2003.
Akinlami is arguably Africa’s foremost Child Protection THINKER and PRACTITIONER, being the founder and principal of Taiwo Akinlami Child Protection Academy, Africa’s pioneer Child Protection academy, author of 5(five) handbooks, 23(twenty-three) Audio Programs and 4 e-books. His Unique philosophy and teachings on Family Strengthening, Child Protection and related matters have been well received in over 133(one hundred and thirty three) countries from the continents of the world.
He is a Consultant, Researcher, Facilitator, Conference Speaker, Mediator, Social Intervention Contents Provider, Child Protection/Rights Enlightenment/Education Curriculum Developer, astute Contributor to Brainstorming and Planning Sessions, Child/Youth Trainer to UNICEF, Premier League/British Council, USAID, UNFPA, Child Frontiers, SOS Children’s Villages, Nigeria, Association of Private Educators of Nigeria(APEN), Association of International School Educators of Nigeria(AISEN), Association of Christian Schools International(ACSI) and National Association of Proprietors of Private School in Nigeria (NAPPS), local, state and federal arms of governments and other leading national and international organisations on Child Protection and related matters. Akinlami, an Independent Listener to the resident students of Grange School, GRA Ikeja, Lagos State is the Secretary General of the Child Protection Network, Lagos State, an initiative of UNICEF.
Akinlami is a prolific writer, poet and blogger. He has over 500(five hundred) articles and poems published on his blog, exhibiting his unique thoughts and ideology on subjects like Child Protection, Social Empowerment Advocacy, LAWpreneurship™. Taiwo Akinlami’s 130-page Bibliography, covering his works in the areas of Social Empowerment and Advancement from Friday, June 10, 1988, (when his first article was published in The Punch Newspaper, one of Nigeria’s leading daily papers) to 2015 is published on his website (www.taiwoakinlami.com). A life member of the Lagos State University Students’ Union Government since 1997, Akinlami was also in 1998 awarded the Distinguished Unionist of the Lagos State University Students’ Union Government. He serves on the board of some notable for-profit and not-for-profit organisations. He is a commissioner for Legal and Vision Alignment of the Discovery for Men Ministry, under the leadership of Pastor Taiwo Odukoya, the president of the Discovery for Men and Senior Pastor of the Fountain of Life Church.
Akinlami, who describes his childhood as bountiful baskets of dehumanizing abuses, today testifies that he is a transformed adult, spirit and soul (mind, will and emotion) by the help of God, to whom he surrendered his life in February 16, 1997 at the age of 27. He declares as his Personal Operating Ideology (POI), ‘The World is a marketplace; sacrifices are its rewards.’ He is happily married to his adorable, beautiful, amiable and supportive wife, Oluwafunmilayo and the family resides in Lagos, Nigeria.
